In the past, breaks at campuses were filled with conversations, laughter, and camaraderie among colleagues. However, the current atmosphere has shifted significantly. Nowadays, many employees seem engrossed in their mobile phones rather than engaging with one another in break rooms.
Recently, an old video from the 1990s showcasing the Infosys canteen in Bengaluru has gone viral on social media. The footage features young employees enjoying their lunch, seemingly unaware that they were about to become part of India's tech revolution. The video is captioned, “A glimpse of the Infosys canteen in the 1990s. The individuals seen here are likely multi-millionaires today, settled abroad.”
While the authenticity of the footage remains unverified, it has struck a deep emotional chord, particularly among former IT employees and those connected to the industry. Reports indicate that the clip has garnered over four million views, with viewers reminiscing about the simplicity and aspirations of the past.
It’s noteworthy that Infosys was founded in 1981 by N.R. Narayana Murthy and six co-founders. The company was among the pioneers in India to adopt the employee stock option model, enabling thousands of employees to become millionaires right from their first jobs. According to the company’s official statement, Infosys has played a crucial role in establishing India as a global software service hub over the past 40 years, with its global delivery model being considered a landmark achievement.
On social media, users are referring to this video as a “snapshot of the birthplace of the tech revolution,” reigniting discussions about whether future generations will possess the same energy, simplicity, and vision that were once evident in Bengaluru's campuses.
